South Calgary Primary Care Network provides graduate level psychology and social work students and undergraduate BSW students the opportunity to gain knowledge and generalist counselling experience within a community-based mental health program. Practicum students are assigned to a supervisor who will work with them over the course of their placements. The practicum terms begin in either September, January or May.

CURRENTLY ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR SEPTEMBER 2023 FOR MSW STUDENTS ONLY.
PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS ARE WELCOME TO APPLY FOR JANUARY 2024 STARTING IN MAY.
Undergraduate students complete the following during their practicum:
- Three days per week on site (unless your program has longer requirements)
- Individual social work intakes, follow up sessions and triage calls
- Weekly clinical supervision
- Attendance at monthly group supervision on Tuesday afternoons
- Group training and co-facilitation of one group which may be in the evening (Happiness Basics or Journey Through Grief or Craving Change)
Admission Requirements
To be considered, students must meet the following minimum admission requirements:
- Current enrolment in an undergraduate social work program, from a recognized university
- A resume or curriculum vitae
- An application letter, stating interest, qualifications, and experience relevant to engaging with clients.
- Applicants may also comment on how this program will help them meet their career goals
- Police Check
Graduate students complete the following during their practicum:
- Three days or 21 hours per week on site (unless your program has longer requirements)
- Eight face-to-face counselling hours each week (each University program may have different requirements)
- Weekly clinical supervision
- Attendance at monthly group supervision on Tuesday afternoons
- Group training and co-facilitation of one group which may be in the evening (Anxiety 2 Calm or ACT or Journey Through Grief)
Admission Requirements
To be considered, students must meet the following minimum admission requirements:
- Current enrolment in a graduate program, from a recognized university, with a major in counselling psychology or clinical social work
- One reference letter by a professional or academic source. The letter should comment on the motivation and ability to complete advanced training in counselling practice
- A resume or curriculum vitae
- An application letter, stating interest, qualifications, and experience relevant to counselling. Applicants may also comment on how this program will help them meet their career goals.
